About
I'm Carl. I dropped out of college at 17, worked a season as a race car engineer, did a couple of years inspecting boiler headers and flare stacks with cameras, then found my way into IT. That was 25 years ago. Since then I've worked my way through the rank and file — starting at a small internet company in Wirksworth, then through Experian, Ticketmaster, Bet365, Caterpillar, and Bank of New York. Somewhere along the way I picked up a few vocationals too — general engineering, electrical installation, TIG welding. I like to understand how things actually work.
I grew up in rural Derbyshire, left to spend 25 years building systems for companies with big budgets, and got tired of watching local businesses get left behind or ripped off by agencies who don't understand their world. So here I am.
Now I run Taming Chaos. The idea is simple. I help businesses figure out what technology they actually need, and then I build it. Maybe it's an AI system that saves you 20 hours a week. Maybe it's a better spreadsheet. Maybe it's a bucket with an extra handle. Let's have a chat and find out.
I work smart. You get serious capability without the overhead of a department — and you deal with me directly, not a project manager relaying messages to someone offshore.
For farming businesses looking to diversify, I work on a revenue-share basis. We find a new income stream, I build it, and I take a share of what it earns. I understand that "what's this going to cost me?" is the first question, and I've structured the answer so the risk is on me, not you.
If you want to know whether I can help you tame the chaos in your business, the easiest thing is to have a conversation. It's free, it's honest, and if I can't help I'll tell you.
